The Staff Team

Literacy Volunteers has a Staff Team of 7, which looks after approximately 300 Volunteers and some 150 schools and helps, on average, 1200 children per week.
 

Richard Wray, the Service Director, is responsible for all aspects of the Charity on a day-to-day basis. He reports to the Board of Trustees (elected from Members) and also makes recommendations on policies and prepares reports for them.  Part of his role also includes the negotiation of funding arrangements with both City and County Councils and other funding bodies.

Karen Ballinger is our Administrator and Richard’s deputy.  Karen provides the first point of office contact for all Volunteers and schools and is invaluable to the smooth running of Literacy Volunteers in the many varied tasks and duties she performs in her role.

Heather Brooksbank, is the principal Trainer for the Charity and is also the Area Co-ordinator for South West Notts. Supported by the respective Area Co-ordinators Heather runs courses at the Denewood Centre and other locations across the County.

Sue Marriott is our Development Worker and also Area Co-ordinator for North Notts. She is our key link between many other organisations and successfully spearheads many development projects in both the City and County. She has two secondary school aged children, one of which will be starting University next year.

Toni Edwards is also a Trainer and the Area Co-ordinator for Newark District, Gedling and part of Bassetlaw. Toni is also a School Governor and has one child of primary school age, another at the start of her secondary school career and a third at University in Australia.

Emma Collis is our Area Co-ordinator for the City. She is also fully aware of the current situation in primary schools, having two children of that age and one at the start of his secondary school career.  She is keen to expand our representation in City schools. Emma also brings her talents as a Graphic Designer to promote our corporate image.

Emma Trowbridge is our Clerical Assistant/Trainee Area Co-ordinator (City). Emma T’s first responsibility will be to help Karen with the administration of the Charity and is being trained as an AC to support Emma C in the City.  Emma T has two children, one of primary school age and the other in secondary school so she is also well aware of the current educational practices.

Rachel Morgan who served with Literacy Volunteers for some four years as Area Co-ordinator (City) and Trainer now acts as an extra Trainer when required.  She has two children of secondary school age.
