Schools Info

We are able to offer three main packages for the training and or recruitment and support of Volunteers/helpers and one for the enlistment of Senior Citizens to participate in an exchange of letters with children.

Neighbourhood Community Scheme

We will recruit, train, CRB check and support, in school, in the region of 10 Volunteers for your family of primary schools/area. Each school involved will receive a Treasure Chest of books and word games for the sole use by our Volunteers. There is an annual subscription of, currently, £138.50 per Volunteer and minimum involvement from the member school. This method of providing our service has been proven many times during our 10 years of existence and literally thousands of children have benefited from the help provided by our Volunteers.

Parent Volunteers Course

Under this scheme we will hold an information meeting for prospective parent Volunteers, recruited by you at your primary school, will conduct 2 X 2 hour training sessions for them and hold a support meeting the following term. You will manage the Volunteers. The pilot course has been run at Bentinck Primary School where 5 parent Volunteers successfully completed all the required training.

6th Form Mentors Course

Here we would train up to ten 6th Formers from your school, selected by you, to help new entrants in year 7 increase their reading and communication skills and thus enable them to benefit more from their education.  The pilot course has been successfully run within the Greenwood Dale family of schools during March 2008 and we are now able to offer this type of training to interested parties.

Pen Pals Project

This intergenerational, topic-based letter writing project is aiming to help improve the writing skills of primary school children.  Volunteers write to pupils about their memories and the changes they have seen over the decades; subjects include family life, technology, fashion, media and other relevant topics. The children then reply and it is hoped a correspondence will take place. All letters are monitored by Staff/Volunteers.
